In February 2026 the province added 14 new school projects in Calgary, bringing the city’s total to 45 new builds, according to LiveWire Calgary. All 14 are in the planning or design stage.
Where the new projects are
- Calgary Board of Education (9): new elementary schools in Walden, Carrington, Cityscape, Kincora/Sage Hill and Mahogany; a K–9 school in Country Hills; a middle school in Legacy; an addition to Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School; and a replacement school on the former Louise Dean site in Kensington.
- Calgary Catholic (3): elementary/junior high schools in Cityscape and Mahogany, and a high school in Ambleton.
- Conseil scolaire FrancoSud (1): a junior high school (location not yet announced).
- Alberta Classical Academy (1): an expansion of the Currie campus.
The province also said 31 earlier projects were underway in Calgary, with 12 schools opening in the 2026–27 school year. Evanston Heights, a new CBE middle school in the northwest, opened this fall.
Why it matters
For many families, a school in the community is a deciding factor, and fast-growing areas have often had too few seats. See all school projects on the Calgary future map.
Opening years depend on construction and funding; check Alberta Education and the school boards for dates.
